Exemplar Health Care has officially opened Coronation Court in Cannock.
The new home was the result of an extensive construction project on Cannock Chase Council’s former Avon Road Car Park, opposite the Asda supermarket.
The home’s name, Coronation Court, was chosen by local Exemplar Health Care team members in a competition that received over 100 entries.
Other suggestions included Hope Manor, in recognition of the work the home will undertake once open; and Shoal Hill Lodge and Castle Ring, recognising nearby landmarks. However, with work starting at the time of King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023, it was felt a fitting tribute to, and commemoration of, the historic moment.
Coronation Court care home is Exemplar Health Care’s eighth home in the West Midlands and supports adults living with brain injuries, dementia, mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities.
The opening of the new home has created 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area and, at the time construction started, there was no other complex care provision in the local area, making Coronation Court a unique asset to the local community.

We’re still looking for people to join our team and who reflect our values and want to help make every day better for the people who live here.”

Cutting the ribbon was Councillor Steve Thornley, Leader of Cannock Chase Council. He said: “I was delighted to officially open Coronation Court in Cannock. This is more than just a new building, it’s a place where compassion, dignity, and quality of life will flourish. It will make a lasting difference to the local community, providing essential care and support for adults with complex needs for many years to come.”
Councillor Maureen Freeman, Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets said: “It was fantastic to attend the official opening of Coronation Court, which thanks to Exemplar Health Care investing in Cannock, we have seen develop from an underused car park, into a state-of-the-art facility. Coronation Court not only provides high-quality care for residents with complex needs but has also created stable and rewarding jobs for local people.”
The home has 33 large bedrooms, each with an ensuite wet room, split across three small communities. With this small group living model, it provides a supportive, homely environment that’s fully responsive to people’s needs. Facilities include communal dining and living spaces, a therapy room, activities hub, sensory bathrooms, a beauty salon, and an accessible garden.
People living at Coronation Court will be able to access a wide range of personalised and therapeutic care, tailored to their needs and preferences. The new team prides itself on empowering the people who live at the home to maximise their independence in a way that works for them based on their healthcare needs, whilst providing the support they need to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

“The development has seen the transformation of a brownfield site into an important new nursing home that is providing vital care for people in Cannock. We worked with our partners to secure the previously underutilised car park from the council and unlock the scheme, which marks the first stage in the wider regeneration of Cannock town centre.
