A ground-breaking ceremony has taken place to celebrate the commencement of work at Housing 21’s new 60 apartment Extra Care scheme in Faringdon, Oxfordshire.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Housing 21, Vale of White Horse District Council, Quattro, Osbournes and Deeley Construction who have been contracted to build the scheme.
Peter Smith, Construction Project Manager at Housing 21, said: “It is very pleasing to reach this important milestone and see the start of construction of Housing 21’s fifth Extra Care Living court in Oxfordshire.
“I am looking forward to working with Deeley Construction, Osbornes, Quattro and other members of the professional team throughout the build and am confident this will result in a stunning new scheme that will greatly benefit the people of Faringdon and beyond.”
The Extra Care scheme, located on Brickell Way is Housing 21’s fifth Extra Care scheme in Oxfordshire and will provide one- and two-bedroom apartments for people over the age of 55, with the assurance of on-site care for residents if and when they need it.
Residents will have the choice to rent or purchase their property through shared ownership.

“This all-electric, low carbon scheme will be the fourth development we will have delivered in four years for Housing21.”

Residents can look forward to benefitting from a wide range of communal facilities, including a communal lounge, assisted bathing suite and guest room.
Cllr Bethia Thomas, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council said: “It’s brilliant to mark this stage of progress on such a significant scheme which will help provide affordable extra care homes. This housing is such an important provision for Faringdon and the Vale, we can’t wait to see the homes open and welcoming people in 2025.”
There will be additional facilities available for the wider local community to use, including a café/bistro and communal gardens.
The scheme is forecast to open in the Summer of 2025.
