Lidl GB opened its new supermarket on Old Walsall Road in Hamstead for the first time on Thursday November, 4. The new store replaces the current one on the same road.
Opening times for the new store will be between 8am – 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sunday, delivering Lidl’s fresh, quality and great value produce to the local community.
Part of the discounter’s £1.3bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022, the new store retains all of the existing colleagues from the previous Old Walsall Road store as well as creating nine additional roles for the local community.
The new Lidl store has been completed by Midlands-based developer Deeley Construction and delivered to BREEAM Very Good Specification.
The supermarket will feature a 1,410m2 sales area, a solar panelled roof as well as facilities including an instore bakery, customer toilet and improved welfare facilities for employees. Parking for both cars and bicycles will also be available, including two electric vehicle charging points.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Iain Ross, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing our new store to Hamstead. It is great for us to be able to deliver an improved shopping experience for residents and we look forward to delivering even more of our high quality and affordable produce to the local area.”
Managing Director of Deeley Construction, Martin Gallagher, added: “This is the latest in a line of developments we have delivered under the Lidl contractor framework and we are pleased to be strengthening our partnership with the major national retailer. Deeley Construction has a proud history of delivering purpose-built projects of this type. There was a clear demand for a larger store in the area. It’s wonderful to see it now open and welcoming customers. It will be of great benefit to the community – especially with the store creating new jobs locally too.”
