Watnall Road: a development in partnership between Deeley Construction and extra care provider Preferred Homes
The development reflects the growing opportunity in Watnall, delivering much-needed care facilities for the area.
This £15.9 million extra care facility is a testament to the ongoing partnership between Deeley Construction and Preferred Homes. Located just two minutes from the heart of Hucknall, this 73-bed facility has been designed to provide a modern, comfortable living space for residents while contributing to the local community.
The Watnall Road extra care facility exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to sustainable development
Built on the site of a former police station, the building is an imposing T-section design. The top part of the building stands four stories tall, while the lower section is three stories. The exterior features a blend of black and white brickwork, combined with large glazing panels to enhance natural light in every bedroom. The flat roof design complements the sleek, modern aesthetic of the building.
The interior is designed with a focus on functionality and comfort. Each room includes a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living areas, with some units offering one or two bedrooms. The development includes a bistro kitchen, multipurpose room, and a plant room.

Energy and waste saving strategy
The facility features an 81 kW photovoltaic system installed on the roof, providing a substantial amount of renewable energy to the building.
Additionally, crushed material from the demolition of the former police station has been used as piling mat. This strategy helped reduced the amount of waste sent to landfills, supporting the project’s sustainability goals
Environmental
The development encourages sustainable transport by including two bike shelters that accommodate 18 bike spaces and four electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
Each apartment features a single air source heat pump for hot water and electric panel heaters for warmth.
Choosing an all-electric system highlights the project’s commitment to cost-efficient sustainability without compromising on quality or environmental standards.
