Stirchley Care Home, Telford

Construction of an exciting new supported living development at the former Stirchley Leisure Centre site.

Extra Care Affordable Social Housing Provider, Preferred Homes Ltd, completed the land purchase in March 2023 and have begun creating a 72-bed extra care facility costing a total of £17m GDV (gross development value).

The new facility will provide more supported and specialist housing which Telford & Wrekin Council is committed to delivering through its Specialist and Supported Accommodation Strategy (2020- 2025) which contributes to its overall Housing Strategy.

The state-of-the-art development at the 1.1 acre site, on Grange Avenue, Telford, will enable residents to live independently with onsite care support.

Through the strategy, the council underlines its support for the most vulnerable adults and children in the borough by giving them access to suitable housing.

Construction of this latest extra care facility at Stirchley feeds into the council’s plan to see the development of a range of new build specialist and supported accommodation over the next 10 years, reflecting the needs and demand in local communities, particularly in the south of Telford.

Utilising our construction expertise

Utilities: during the tender period we identified the services on site and adjacent to site entrance so we arranged for our programme to show early solution to this. We worked closely with RPS (the Employer’s Agent) to ensure that no delays from the Utility diversion affected the programme. To enable the construction works to take place access into site was set up on adjacent car park of Telford Park School. We laid stone and tarmac to protect the existing services and will reinstate the car park upon completion.

Live Environment: We worked in close proximity to multiple stakeholders including Telford Park Secondary School, Chipmunks Nursery, Stirchley and Brookside Parish Council and various Residential and Retail Units. We maintained regular communication with all parties and hired the community centre to utilise existing facilities, minimise the need for new facilities on site whilst providing economic input for a local organisation.
