Starley Sportive – Charity Cycle Ride in association with Coventry Road Club (100% of event income goes to charity)
The Starley Sportive will return to Coventry and Warwickshire roads this September. The Starley Sportive will take its fundraising up a gear when it returns on Sunday, September 24 after partnering with Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes for the 2023 edition.
This year’s event features three different routes, with riders choosing from scenic routes of 29 miles, 63 miles and 87 miles through Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, and the Cotswolds.
Through the collaboration of Deeley Group and Coventry Road Club, the Starley Sportive is a new cycle ride that is gaining momentum each year.
On Sunday 17th February 2019, 500 cyclists achieved a hat-trick of aims as the city’s Starley Sportive helped raise around £13,000 for charity.
The sportive – named after the Coventry men who invented the modern bicycle – was one of the first mass participation events celebrating Coventry’s 12 months as European City of Sport.

In 2020, despite being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has raised £9,415 for charity.
COVID-19 forced organisers Coventry Road Club, Coventry-based construction and development firm the Deeley Group and Coventry City Council to cancel the rescheduled date, although refunds were offered many generous riders have chosen to still donate their entry fees to charity.
The funds raised were donated primarily to support Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice – but some money was also donated to Leamington-based Young People First. A virtual ride took place via RGT cycling on the day the event was planned for, with all funds raised donated to support Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice through the coronavirus pandemic.
“Many thanks for an excellent Sportive today. Very well organised and sign posted, it was interesting to come at familiar roads from a different direction. At £10 it was very good value compared to a commercial sportive !!Thanks to all involved and to Deeley Group for a magnificent HQ.”
