Blue Coat School, Coventry

The development was yet another for Deeley Construction in the Education sector. The project involved the design and construction of a new single storey sixth form block, including landscaping and a new car park.

This expansion project involved extending the school’s capacity to accommodate a temporary increase of 60 pupils.

The site was on a live school site and is adjoined by live roads and residential properties, therefor extra consideration had to be taken to cause the least amount of disruption possible.

The school is a Church of England School and Music College and is part of the Inspire Education Trust, which is a multi-academy trust. The school site is large, comprises buildings, outdoor sports facilities, playing fields and old allotment land and is traversed by the River Sherbourne. The sixth form currently serves 340 students.

Social Value Delivered:

During the development we welcomed several classes of students who wanted to learn about the construction industry. Due to this and our approach the site scored 41 / 45 during its Considerate Constructors Scheme visits.

Also, we worked closely with Coventry City Council’s resilience team and showcased the benefit of a local authority procuring a local contractor by delivering a huge 36% of Social Value to the local community.
