We have delivered a new Sofology store in a live retail environment just south of Birmingham City Centre.
The project was to construct a new 10,000 sq. ft. Sofology store on the land adjacent to the existing DFS store, as well as conducting high level works of the DFS unit’s façade.
Our client, London Metric Properties, had a requirement to expand and enhance their retail offering with this new sofa store. Due to our ongoing partnership with them, we were involved early in the scheme and provided value engineering and assistance with closing pre-commencement planning conditions.
The building consists of a steel frame structure, part clad / part block externals with a glazed frontage. We appointed our energy assessors from an early stage to assist with achieving the BREEAM Excellent status required. Our designs have been led by the choice of the building fabric, and we opted for energy and water saving devices to improve the sustainability factor of the build.
Drawing on from our experience in working in live retail environments, we adapted our site logistics plan to minimise disruption to the DFS unit. We maintained
access to the store whilst conducting refurbishment works to their façade. Regular liaison with DFS was a major factor in ensuring our works did not impose a risk to the safety of the public.
